drought

We think that drought is the biggest threat to Australia because it is very hot and dry country. There is not enough rainfall to avoid drought especially in the dry regions.

Drought homework question

Research on Drought

1. Identify one significant natural disaster that could affect the people of Australia.

A drought means that there’s a lack of rain and a lack of water.

. The trees would be dried out from a lack of rain.

. The water supply prices would become expensive

. Crops and gardens would dry out and die because of a lack of rain.

. There would be cracks in the earth because of a lack of rain and water.

Wildlife would die through a lack of feed and water.

2. Research and explain how and why this natural disaster occurs?

A drought occurs by hot temperatures and lack of rain. Which means a long period of time.

3. Research and explain how and why this natural Disaster occurs?

A drought occurs by hot temperatures and not much rain. Witch means a long period of hot temperatures. It can also occur from lack of rain. Dust storms are a new sign.

4. How does the Natural Disaster affect the environment?

The affects of a Drought on the Environment are very bad. For things to survive and grow water is very important.
Without water all the farmers’ crops will die and the Super Market wouldn’t have many fruit and vegetables people to buy to eat.
With any fruit and vegetables people will get sick a lot easer. Also without water animals will die. And if we don’t have food for people all over the world. Also with no animals farmers won’t get money because they will have no milk, or eggs, and all those other things to sell.

How do people respond to the disaster?

Drought affects people all over Australia. The Warragamba Dam supplies 80% of Sydney’s water. The Dam level fell from 76% in capacity in January 2002 to 42% by January 2005.As a result water restrictions were put in place:

~We had to stop washing cars and all hard surfaces.

~Limit the use of water for watering the garden.

~Taking shorter showers.

Many people also installed water saving devices. Drought can put a financial, emotional and health strain on a person and their family and community. People that live on a farm and rely on it to survive will suffer from a drought. No water for their crops and livestock they then can die and the farmer has a reduced income. Some farmers then leave the farm for good and have to find other work. Others suffer health wise. This affects not only their families but also the communities they are supplying their food to.

5. Identify times when the type of Disaster has affected the people of Australia.

Drought affects many people like farmers by crops dieing which means prices go up, water restrictions , not much water supplies so people have to buy water to their farms.
